Whether you are an experienced singer or a first-time performer, there is a choir at Esperanza for you!

Concert Choir

No audition required. Sign up for Concert Choir with your Esperanza academic counselor! This year, Concert Choir is Period 3, but that is subject to change.

Instructions

• All students interested in joining Vocal Ensemble and/or Reverberation must audition. Returning members must re-audition each year.
• Sign up for an audition time above.
• You may audition for Vocal Ensemble, Reverberation, or both. If you are auditioning for both choirs, you only need to sign up for one audition time and bring one audition form.
• Download the audition form here. Printed copies are available in the choir room. Please bring a printed copy with you to your audition. The audition form must be reviewed and signed by a parent.
• During the audition, you will be assessed on sight-singing ability, pitch-matching, and tonal memory. Multiple factors affect the final selection process. It is never only about the quality of your voice.
• Please also prepare 16 measures (about 30 seconds, typically one verse and chorus) of a song that showcases your musical ability and taste in music. It may be any song.

Dance Callbacks for Reverberation — May 11, 4–6 PM in the Esperanza Choir Room

We will announce the list of students who have advanced to dance callbacks on this webpage. Check back here on the afternoon of Friday, May 8, to view the callback list. Additionally, we will notify students directly via the email provided on their audition form.

Students invited to the dance callback round must attend the callback session in the choir room. During this session, students will learn several measures of choreography taught by our choreographer. The director and choreographer will assess their ability to learn and retain choreography, as well as their overall sense of rhythm and coordination. We understand that this may be a new experience for many students, so we provide as much support and encouragement as possible. Many students new to dancing in show choir are often surprised by how quickly they improve!

Audition Results

Following dance callbacks, audition results for both Vocal Ensemble and Reverberation will be announced. Results will be posted on this webpage and on the choir room door at EHS. Additionally, all auditioners will be contacted directly regarding their ensemble placement.

About the Choirs

Vocal Ensemble is a select choir that performs everything from ancient chant to contemporary a cappella and vocal jazz. This talented group travels throughout the year, performing at local events, festivals, competitions, and right here on campus. Vocal Ensemble meets during first period.

Reverberation is our award-winning show choir — a high-energy group that combines singing and dancing to bring pop hits to life. Each year, they create an exciting performance set (think mini-musical) to compete in spring competitions. Reverberation rehearses during zero period on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:15 to 8:20 AM.
